Tea? for Winter? Groundbreaking.

My “staff” meetings are usually a party of one typically held when I am driving, working out, or in the shower. The upside to meeting with myself at these times is my thoughts are plentiful since multi-tasking is challenging during a run. But, on the flip side, they are also the most inconvenient regarding recording meeting minutes (aka ideas). I’d say my retention rate is just about 60%. But hey, “Cs and Ds get degrees” so I am well on my way.

When I am not engrossed in my inner thoughts, I bounce ideas off of Mike, and more often than I’d care to admit, I elicit advice from the pups, or in Cherokee’s case, I am greeted with her unsolicited advice. With her 100-yard stare, she slid into Miranda Priestly’s role from The Devil Wears Prada role nicely.

Last week, I offered lemon chamomile mini loaves. Made with fresh local lemons and loose chamomile tea, these small cakes are wonderfully citrusy with a hint of floral. Chamomile is my favorite tea, so simmering it in piping-hot milk is an aromatic delight.

When baking the loaves the other day, I decided to include them on the menu for another week. They are simply delicious and deserve to be enjoyed again. I thought about making a post that said, “If you are on the fence about trying the lemon chamomile loaves, do it. I know you’ll love them. With the infusion of tea, they are the perfect cozy treat this winter.”

Same 100-yard stare, just a different day.

As I mulled this over, I turned toward the island and saw Cherokee staring at me from the couch. Ears up, not blinking. I’m not confident, but I am pretty sure I heard her say, “Tea? For winter? Groundbreaking.” in her snarkiest tone, Miranda Priestly's voice. Simultaneously, judging me for my shoe choice, no doubt. In all fairness, I think she is still a little bent about getting her nails trimmed today. It was quite the mani-pedi I promised her.

While tea in the winter may not be groundbreaking, chamomile paired with lemon is a fun twist on the classic lemon loaf. I still stand by my earlier thought: Try it. I know you will love it.

(Please excuse the error in the newsletter. I made a mental note to change "illicit" to "elicit" before hitting send, and I still forget. I remembered as soon as I hit the button. Isn't that how it always works?!)
