Last Breaths of Summer

Like many of you, I have been enjoying the last of the season's tomatoes, still ripening on my vines, and the few strawberries that are still popping up. Their bright red hues catch my eye during my morning garden refresh times.
Although shorter, the days are still long and warm, which allows me to continue indulging in after-dinner sunset walks on the neighborhood trail.
Despite it still being summer, the air is filled with the anticipation of fall. Apples and pears are beginning to pop up at the local farmers' markets, which means apple scones are back on my bakery menu and apple pies will soon follow suit. After a few hotter-than-necessary weeks, I think we are all yearning for those crisp fall mornings and cloudy skies.
While I am more than ready for a fresh start, I must remind myself to pause and celebrate all the goodness the last of the season still has to offer. With lots of juicy summer fruits still on offer at the markets, I can’t let summer drift away without one final batch of tomato peach soup. And a few more dips at the lake are definitely in order. These final breaths of summer will soon be gone, and before we know we will be once again counting the days until their arrival.
While you are prepping yourself for the upcoming fall equinox, don’t miss out on the opportunity to slow down and soak up these final moments!
xx
